Kathy Watson passed away Saturday, March 28th, 2015, surrounded by her family.

She was born the youngest of three daughters October 22, 1940 in Denver, Colorado. Her family moved to the Newcastle area when she was a young child. Kathy graduated from Newcastle High School. She married Oscar Watson on June 8, 1960. They were married for 42 years, until his passing in 2002. They spent their lives in Newcastle, raising four children; Wendie, Ken, Martha and Carrie. They lost a fifth child, a son, at birth. In her retirement, she moved to Rapid City, SD, where she was a substitute teacher, and worked at Sylvan Lake Resort in the summer. She made many friends and memories during that time.

Her life was dedicated to the Girl Scouts and her love of the outdoors. She holds a lifetime membership in the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. She started as a volunteer leader, and then worked professionally for the Wyoming Girl Scout Council for 35 years in many roles, rising to the level of Field Executive. Many of her passions were pursued in this capacity, including training girls and adults in outdoor skills, becoming a certified life guard and canoe instructor, and directing camps and events. Numerous organizations have experienced her generous spirit and fundraising abilities. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the United Fund in Weston County.

Her love of life and adventure led her down many trails and streams. Kathy loved camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and hunting. She loved being “Gramma” and spending time teaching her family, and so many others, to appreciate nature, to protect it, and nurture it. She inspired love for God and country. Her active lifestyle also included music and dancing, “clowning” around, and gardening. She was fun-loving and her sense of humor, smile and laughter will be forever etched in our hearts and memories.

Kathy will be remembered by surviving relatives including her children, Wendie (Jeff) Meyer of Wayne, NE, Ken (Nancy) Watson of Gillette, Martha Watson of Helena, MT, and Carrie (Mark) Peterson of Newcastle; her 11 grandchildren, Ashlee Meyer Deeds, Jeffrey Meyer, Brandon Watson, Alyssa Watson, Cameron Watson, Nick Snyder, C.J. Snyder, Cayla Jo Watson, Jordan Peterson, Jared Peterson, and Grace Peterson; three great grandchildren, Trenton and Carlee Deeds, and Tristan Meyer; many nieces and nephews; and her best “dog” friend, Max.
