Joseph Evans Scott, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2015. Born in Jacksonville to the late Joseph Evans Scott and Rosa Lee Suggs Scott, he was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an aircraft mechanic. Formerly a resident of Rockville, MD and Floral City, FL, he retired from both the U.S. Postal Service and the PGA Tour respectively. Mr. Scott was an accomplished artist and his works will be treasured for years to come. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Green. He and his wife Emma Verdelia Fuqua Scott were soon to celebrate their 73rd wedding anniversary in May 2015. He is also survived by his children, Meladee Powell Scott Turner (Jerry) of Heflin, AL; Philip Fuqua Scott (Joyce) of Bolingbrook, IL; sister, Sandra Carter; grandchildren, Kathryn Turner Yeoman ( Paul) of Jacksonville, FL, Erin Schnurstein (Steve) of Cincinnatti, OH, Kellen Scott (Ashley) of Franklin, TN, Jason Scott (Stephanie) and Leah Simonek Lewis (Julio) of Aurora, IL; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30th in Deermeadows Baptist Church chapel where Mr. Scott will lie-in-state beginning at 10:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to Deermeadows Baptist Church, Senior Choir Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL. Oceanfront, Neptune Beach, FL 32266 or to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
