Adam Wayland's first wife, Elizabeth, died of small pox during her pregnancy. Shortly thereafter, Adam married Maria "Mary" Finks (born abt 1742 to 1758-1830), and they had a boy, Adam Jr, and girl, Hannah (md David Jones), at the time of their father's death. Maria and Adam divorced not long before Adam died.
Christopher Blankenbaker had nine children and only once was there a Finks sponsor (1778), and that was Mary Finks Wayland.
Adam Wayland made his will May 16, 1775. He mentions his first wife, Elizabeth, and "all my children". There was a disagreement over the will, between the children of his first wife, and his second wife Mary and children. There is an unconfirmed report that Maria and Adam divorced not long before his death. As a result of debate over the will there were several lawsuits. Thomas Jefferson wrote the legal opinion on the matter dated August 16 1782. In general, the children of Mary their got their share.
