Allen Billy Adams, age 87, of Okeechobee went home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2008 at Raulerson Hospital, surrounded by his son and close friends.

Bill was born April 11, 1921 in Cameron, Texas to Porter and Myrtle Adams. Bill started work at the age of 13 at RL Bat Ranch to support his family during the Depression earning one dollar per day. At age 19, he joined the Army, Second Infantry, trained at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He proudly served five years during WWII. He was involved in five campaigns; including Normandy Beach on “D” day, Battle of the Bulge, Czechoslovakia. He and ten other men from his company held two small towns in Germany against many German soldiers, took out four Tiger Tanks for which there is a monument standing today dedicated to the Second Infantry. Involved in liberating concentration camps; he was also involved in the capture of General Haans Franks.

After being discharged from the Army he signed on as a Texas Ranger with his horse Ol’ Pal. In 1953 he left the Rangers and moved to South Florida to manage cattle ranches for the next 40 years of his life. He moved to Okeechobee in the 1980s where he worked for Rollins Ranch until he retired in the late 1990s with his wife Sissy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Flora E. Adams. He is survived by younger brother, Earl Adams of San Antonio, TX; son, Little Bill (Noelle) Adams of Loxahatchee; grandchildren, Pam, Christina, Leana, Cindy, Amy, Jesse, and Brandon; great grandchildren, Chad, Tyler, Dale, Amber, Christopher, Justin, Blake, Zachary, Christian and Angelina.
Visitation will begin- 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Freedom Ranch. Funeral services will follow with Pastor John Glenn of Freedom Ranch officiating. Interment will be Monday, April 21, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. Hillcrest Memorial Park Gardens in West Palm Beach.

All arrangements are entrusted to the care of Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory. 205 N.E. 2nd Street, Okeechobee.
