Laurel was born May 6, 1957, in Greenville, SC, a daughter of the late William Doyle Payne and the late Elizabeth Greenwood Payne.
She served in the US Air Force for 13 years and was an office manager with SOS Security for 8 years.
She was survived by her husband of 35 years, Darrell K. Smith; two stepsons, Darrell K. Smith, Jr. and Jonathan A. Smith of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Alvin T. "Pete" Green; and a sister, Sandra Lynn Hebert.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, in McMillan-Small Funeral Home. Dr. J. Kirk Lawton, Jr., officiated. Burial with military honors followed at 2:00 p.m. in Florence National Cemetery.
