As a Charlotte Mecklenburg School teacher for 23 years, Kathryn used her gift of teaching to nurture and enrich countless young lives. She especially loved her years of teaching at Hickory Grove Elementary, where fellow teachers also became lifelong friends.
After her retirement, she was actively involved in The Hospitality House of Charlotte, where she received a 10 year service award. Kathryn was an active member of St. John's Baptist Church, and loved her church family. She especially enjoyed serving on the Care Committee and spending time with her "lunch bunch" group. For many years, Kathryn and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the country with friends and Christian Tours.
Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her beloved husband, Blair (Jimmy) Carpenter of 59 years, and daughter Karen Holland (husband Keith) of Charlotte. She is survived by grandsons Josh Holland (wife Beth) and Grant Holland of Charlotte, as well as great grandsons Levi and Jed Holland of Charlotte. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her brother Ed Myers (wife Linda) of Falls Church, Virginia, and two nephews and a niece.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, March 31st 2015 at St. John's Baptist Church at 1 pm with Dr. Dennis Foust (St. John's Baptist) and Reverend Josh Holland (Pathway Church of Charlotte) officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
