SPC. Mathew V. Gibbs, 21, of Ambrose, Ga.; was assigned to the 648th Engineer Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade, Georgia Army National Guard, Statesboro, Ga.; He was killed Aug. 3 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near the armored personnel carrier in which he was riding in Baghdad. Also killed were Spc. Jerry L. Ganey Jr. and Sgt. 1st Class Charles H. Warren. Survivors include: wife, Reagan C. Gibbs of Ambrose, Ga.; mother, Jenny Lynn Meeks Thompson of Douglas, Ga.; father, Paul Vincent Gibbs of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two daughters, Ariana Gibbs and Arissa Gibbs, both of Ambrose, Ga.; one brother, Derek Gibbs of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; one sister, Sarah Fussell of Ambrose Ga.; grandparents, Martha Meeks of Douglas, Ga., Ellard Garfield and Florence Gibbs of Tifton, Ga.; niece, Cady Fussell of Ambrose, Ga.; parents in law, Ronnie and Lee Carver of Ambrose, Ga.; and brother-in-law, Brent Carver. He was 21.
