Melvin A. Nelson, 76, of 1048 Woodward Ave., died Monday morning in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Russell Hawblitzel of 50774 Notre Dame Ave. after his return from the winter in Florida. He was a retired co-owner of Nelson Fuel Inc. He was born June 29, 1896 in Chicago and had lived here since 1905, coming from Gary. On June 29, 1922 in South Bend he first married Levinus Burrows, who died in 1955. On AUg. 8, 1958 in South Bend he married La Vonne McIntyre, who died in 1970. Surviving besides his daughter, are a son, Jack M. of San Bernardino, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Miss Olive Nelson of South Bend.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Walter D. Oberholtzer, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, of which he was a member, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Mr. Nelson was a World War I Navy veteran, and a past commander of Post 299 American Legion.
