Marie Malissa Underwood, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015.
Marie was born on August 12, 1919 in Cherokee County, the daughter of Lawrence Albert Hardin and Estelle Knox Hardin. She moved to Emerson, GA at age 15.
She began her career as a cosmetologist in Symonetts Beauty Shop, Cartersville, Ga at the age of 17. She worked happily until the age of 80, retired from Libby's Beauty Shop in Cartersville, GA.
She was a long-time member of Emerson United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking and embroidery. She made the most glorious biscuits and delicious desserts, and took great pride in her home and in the beautiful flowers around her. Her eyes and smile, and wonderful spirit, would light up any room.
After retirement, she fought many health problems with a positive attitude and a resilient heart. She is preceded in death by parents, her husband D. Vann Underwood and daughter, Patricia M. Gordon.
Survived by daughter Vicki Imsande and her husband Roger, of Taylorsville, GA, step-daughter Dorothy Bates and her husband Wyndle, of Dunwoody, GA, stepson, Gerald V. Underwood of Atlanta, GA, granddaughters Bonnie Mitchell, and her husband Tim, of Owasso, OK and Shannon Fair and her husband Brian, of Bartlesville, OK, grandson J. Joseph Veltre III, and his wife Adrienne, of New York, NY, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Steve Alred and Rev. Charlie Marus officiating.
Visitation will be held from two-thirty in the afternoon until service time on Sunday March 29, 2015 at Owen Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make contributions to the Emerson United Methodist Church.
