Harry H. Downey of San Rafael, a retired carpenter, died this morning at a local hospital after a long illness. He was 74.

Downey, who resided at 102 Picnic Avenue with his daughter, Mrs. Erma Wright, was a native of Swanton, NE; and the husband of the late Mrs. Nettie Downey. He is survived by Mrs. Wright and another daughter Mrs. Veda Stirling of Artesia; 2 sons, Roy Downey of Avila Beach and Eldon Downey of Paradise; a brother, Earl Downey of Tampa, FL; and by 6 grandchildren.

Downey was a past Noble Grand of San Rafael Lodge 200, IOOF, and for about 5 years was treasurer of the Carpenters Union, San Rafael local No. 35. He served as foreman for A. Von Rotz Co., on a subdivision in Santa Venetia and was employed by the government for heavy construction work at Hamilton Air Force Base.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo. Inurnment will be private.
