NEWTON. Stella Drum Caldwell, 95, of Newton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Sherrills Ford Hospice House.

She was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Catawba County, to the late John Lanford Drum and Laura Kincaid Drum. A loving mother and grandmother, Stella was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church, in Maiden where she taught children's Sunday school for many years. Stella was known to friends, neighbors and family for selling the family's homemade sausage and giving away fresh vegetables from her large garden. She was a hard worker, with a giving spirit, and a sweet smile. Stella spent her life loving and serving her friends, family and church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Harley Caldwell; daughter, Glenda Caldwell Robinson; brothers, Kelly Drum, Marshall Drum, Vance Drum, Donald Drum and Howard Drum; sisters, Ann Snyder, Ruth Sipe, Nell Wilkinson and Nora Mae Eckerd.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Berry Caldwell and wife, Julia, of Terrell, Eddy Caldwell and wife, Jill, of Newton, Randy Caldwell and wife, Robin, of Newton; son-in-law, Rick Robinson, of Newton; loving caregiver, Barbara Penley, of Newton; grandchildren, Holly Timberlake (Chris), Ashley Brown (Jamey), Sherrill Jordan (John Robert), Telisa Hunter (Michael), Cary Caldwell (Jack), Adam Robinson, David Caldwell (Taren), Pierce Caldwell (Brittany), John Caldwell (Savannah Wesson); and great-grandchildren, Emma Timberlake, Carson Brown, Cecile Caldwell, Eli Timberlake, Juleigh Vena Jordan, Jackson Hoyle, Tate Caldwell, Robert Berry Jordan, Vance Caldwell.

A service to celebrate Stella's life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m., at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church, in Maiden. The Revs. Michael Staton, and Bruce Caldwell will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are David Caldwell, Pierce Caldwell, John Caldwell, Jamey Brown, Adam Robinson and John Robert Jordan. Memorials may be made to Adult Life Program, 3390 Shepherd Rd., Maiden, NC 28650; Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church Building Fund, 3273 Mt. Ruhama Church Rd., Maiden, NC 28650; or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
