STEPHENSON – Ronald J. “Ron/Steve,” died Jan. 2, 2015, at home. Born March 1, 1930, in Johnstown, son of the late James Jr. and Ruth (Benson) Stephenson. Also preceded in death by sister, Judith Ann, and wife, Rita L. (Horne). Survived by children, Richard J., and wife, Katherine (Koop); David B., and wife, Joan (Woj- naroski); Ronda L., and husband, Michael Kovalcik; and Jonathan H. Ron has five grandchildren, Jamie, Corey, Jaison, Andrew and Joseph, and six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Austin, Zoe, Sophie, Ava and Haley. Ron also is survived by his very special friend and companion, Marlene Daniels. Ron was a newsman. He was the pioneer of television news to “millions atop the Alleghenies.” During his 34-year career as a TV news announcer and director, Ron received scores of awards on the local, state and federal levels for excellence in journalism, community service and the advancement of Johnstown. Ron served as a Cambria County commissioner for two terms from 1984-1992. No matter the who, what or when, we could count on Ron Stephenson to “tell it like it is.” At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing.
