Monty Kim Hill, known affectionately as "Dewey," passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 28. He was born on May 1, 1951 in Nephi, Utah.

Following the death of his mother, the family moved to Oregon while Dewey was still in elementary school. Dewey moved to Moab 18 years ago after an adventurous life spent logging in Alaska and Oregon. He was a well-known and well-loved figure in Moab.

Dewey attended the Sunday meal at the First Baptist Church most Sundays for the last year and a half. He often played his guitar and sang, bringing laughter or tears to his listeners. He was always ready with a good story and an engaging smile, and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Dewey is survived by his sisters, Carol Purvis, of Prairie City, Ore., and Connie Flower, of Pineville, Ore.; and his son, Murry James, of Alberta Canada; among others.

The First Baptist Church on MiVida Drive in Moab will host a memorial gathering in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. His sister will be in attendance from her home in Oregon. You are invited to come for coffee and dessert and share in remembering our good friend, Dewey.
