Francis Shaw worked very hard at the founding of Gouldsboro, he died broke because of it. He owned a lot of land and is most likely buried there. There is not a burial record for Boston, but the burial records didn't get regulated by Boston until about 1801-1812. Francis Sr died 18 Oct 1784 and Francis Jr died 6 months after that. So Robert G's father did die in 1785. There are two epitaphs, one at Copp's Hill, Boston; and, one at Steuben Village, Maine.

Why did Robert G place a marker in memory of his father at Steuben, Maine if that isn't his mother buried there? Hannah married her sister, Margaret's widow and died at Steuben. Margaret had a dau, Persis, 9 Jul 1793 and died in 1793, so prob from childbirth or childbed. No doubt Hannah cared for this infant and married Jacob later that year or the following year, 1794.

I have requested to see the memorial at Copp's Hill, it may be a tomb. If it is a tomb, Francis is buried there, but it wouldn't make sense where Robert is not.

SHAW---We regret to record the death of this worthy man, which took place on Tuesday evening at his residence at Beacon st. It is estimated that he has given away for charitable objects the large sum of $400,000. His death was peaceful and happy, as his life had been active and beneficial. One of our most opulent and respected merchants, Robert G. Shaw, departed this life on Tuesday evening. Mr. Shaw was quite rich, being, it was estimated, worth a million and a half of dollars.

He was a very public-spirited and benevolent man, and, until within the last few months, has been very active. Within a few months, however, he has failed. It is said that he became interested in spiritual rappings, and soon the result of the mania was, that he became insane. From that time until his death he was more or less shattered in mind.

His wife was one of the Parkman family, and, like her brother, Dr. Parkman the clergyman, committed suicide a few weeks since. Mr. Shaw was born on the 4th of June, 1776, and was therefore seventy-six years of age. He was held in universal esteem by all who had the pleasure of an acquaintance.
