Myrtle Jackson Ausley, age 82, a resident of the manor at Bluewater Bay, Niceville, Fla., and formerly of 501 North Trinity St., Geneva, Ala., died Thursday, Jan 27, 2000. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday Jan. 31, at First United Methodist Church of Geneva with the Ref. Bruce Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Ausley will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Friends may call at the funeral home 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Methodist Church of Geneva, P.O. Box 517, Geneva, Al.36340, or to the Alzheimer's Association, South Alabama Chapter, P.O. Box, 609 Dothan, AL 36302.
She was born in Geneva County, Ala. on Oct. 26 1917, to the late Robert Lehman and Retha Howell Jackson of Chancellor, Ala. She was married to Rurel R. Ausley, Sr. in Samson, Ala., on April 24, 1943. They were married for 56 years and were blessed with two children, Belinda and Rurel, Jr. She was an active and faitful member of Geneva First United Methodist Church, serving as worship leader, president of Geneva First United Methodist Women, president of Dothan District United Methodist Women, and a member of the ladies Sunday school class. Mrs. Ausley, was a retired schoolteacher, having taught school for more than 39 years. Most of her teaching was with Geneva County schools until her retirement in 1979. She was a graduate of Coffee Springs High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Troy State Teachers College and her master's degree from Auburn University. In the community, she was a lifelong member of the Geneva Athenacum Club. Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Rurel Ausley, Sr. of Geneva, daughter Belinda and son-in-law Dr. John Mathinson of San Diego; son and daughter-in-law, the Revs. Rurel, Jr. and Lisa Ausley of Niceville, Fla; grandchildren, Emily and Nancy Mathison of San Diego, and Matthew, Andrew and Luke Ausley of Niceville; sister, Mavis Patty and husband Pat of Tucson, Ariz.; brothers, Odel Jackson and wife Edna of Dothan, Ala., and Willie Mack Jackson and wife Betty of Crestview, Fla.; sister-in-law, Myrtie Baxley of Marl, Ala.; brother-in-law, Wymack Ausley and his wife, Alma of the Goat Hill community; sister-in-law, Mrs. Bobbie J. Jackson of Malabar, Fla., She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hayward and Charles Wayne Jackson; and many nieces and nephews. Pittman Funeral Home, Geneva, is in charge of arrangements.
