ABINGDON, Va. Jasper Clyde "Jack" Abel, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a life-long resident of Washington County, Virginia and was the son of the late Joseph Lester Abel, Sr. and Julia Ida Lewis Abel. He was also preceded in death by one child, Eva Lou Bailey. He was a member of Green Spring Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon and Elder for many years. He was retired from the Raytheon Corporation where he worked as a machinist. Anybody that knew Jack always knew that he loved to give of his time to the community and truly loved his family and his many friends. He had a warm sense of humor and will always be known as a man that was willing to serve and help others. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Vowell Abel of Abingdon, Virginia; Two children, Mack Bailey and wife Lisa of the Denton's Valley Community of Washington, County, Virginia and Carson Lane Bailey of Abingdon, Virginia; Two grandchildren, Jonathan Bailey and Austin Bailey; Two sisters, Sue Gibson and husband John and Katherine Saul and husband Pat both of Bristol, Tennessee; One brother, Bill Abel and wife Gay of Bristol, Virginia; and His faithful companion, Chico, who was always by his side. Funeral Services for Mr. Jack Abel will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015, in the Watauga Chapel Church on Watauga Road with the Rev. Jon Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Active pallbearers will be Adam Abel, Todd Abel, Austin Bailey, Jonathan Bailey, Carson Bailey and Kevin Abel. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Men of The Green Spring Presbyterian Church and the Men of the Green Spring Community. Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to the Green Spring Presbyterian Church Upper Level Restoration Project, 22007 Green Spring Church Rd., Abingdon, Virginia 24211-5573 in Memory of Mr. Jack Abel.
