J. S. Fox moved with his parents at twelve years of age from Mississippi to Kaufman, Texas. Married Sally Ann Anderson and later moved to Henrietta, Texas, with three children-Will, May and Eva. And here Ethel was born. Moved to Armstrong County March 1893 in a covered wagon.
He settled on a farm three miles south west of Claude on a big high hill at the head of Mulberry creek. The place can be seen from a far off. We could frequently hear the panther's holler and see a wolf go by. Wood was hauled from the Palo Duro Canyon. One time part of the family had gone to the canyon for wood, when we came out on top of the cap-rock we saw an immense smoke north and west; it was a prairie fire the train had started in Amarillo. It swept by our farm but the house was saved.
In 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Fox and two girls, Eva and Ethel moved to Amarillo, moving back to the town of Claude in 1904, just to stay six months and back to Amarillo again, where they lived until Mrs. Fox's death in May 1913. After which Mr. Fox lived in Claude with his children until his death in Oct. 1926.
Grandpa Fox came to U. S. was a sailor from England on first Steamship that came to U. S. Had a rich uncle in England.
