Helena was the third of three children, the second child, also named Helena (Jonsdotter) having not survived from birth. Helena Elisabet Rafsten, daughter of Jons Nilsson Rafsten and Christina Charlotta Tornberg, was born in Höör, Malmöhus, Sweden 23 July 1836 and died there 23 March 1924. She married Olof Pehrsson Onelius, a watchmaker, of Höör. She had one older living sibling, a sister named Mathilda (Rafsten) Palmgren. Helena and Olof had eight children, the last of which, Ester Isidora Onelius, died in infancy. Most of the children immigrated to America at various times, settling in Chicago, Illinois, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Olof and Helena resided in house # 9 on Storgaten Street, just north of the town square. The house still stands as of 2015. It is believed, but not as yet confirmed, that Helena is buried in Gamla Kyrkogarden Cemetery, where her husband Olof was buried in 1902, according to Höör Church Parish records stating he is buried there. The cemetery is referred to as the "Old Graveyard." Efforts are underway to confirm this place as her burial location.
