FLORENCE — Irene Sanders left her earthly family to join her Lord and Savior, on Jan. 31, 2019, just one month shy of her 90th birthday. She was born on March 2, 1929, the first daughter of Jerdie and Iver Tipton, in Carlisle, Texas and spent the majority of her life in Baytown, Texas. A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in 1946, she worked at B. F. Goodrich in Baytown. After business schooling, she worked as a dispatcher and bookkeeper for The City of Baytown, Texas, from 1963 until retirement.

Irene married Herman Edward Sanders in 1964, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her were her parents, and brother-in-law, Louis Paul Broussard Sr.

She is survived by her loving sister, Julia Broussard; nephews, Louis Paul Broussard II (Darci), Alan Broussard (Emily), Stephen Broussard, Robert Broussard, all of Florence, Alabama; great-niece, her namesake, Sarah Rene’ Broussard Muse (Donny) and their unborn child; great-nephew, James Isaac Broussard (Makenzie); and great-great-nephews, Cullen James and Cohen Isaac Broussard, and David Troha (Amy), from Beaumont, Texas; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Following retirement, Irene and Edward moved to the Zip City, Alabama area. Upon Edward’s death, Irene lived at Merrill Gardens/ Brookdale Retirement Community and Assisted Living, then Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, all in Florence, Alabama. The family gives many thanks to all her caregivers and to Community Care Hospice for their loving service.

Irene was a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was a fine Christian example, generous, compassionate, humble, sweet spirited lady who loved everyone. Her passions included any family gatherings, deer and duck hunting, fishing, Braves baseball, gardening, cooking, travel, dominoes, bingo, puzzles, and all animals. Her fierce hello and goodbye hugs and genuine musical laughter will be greatly missed.

Visitation with family will be today, February 3, 2019 at 2 p.m. followed by the celebration service at 3 p.m., all at Greenview Funeral Home, Florence, Alabama. Service will be officiated by Pastor Dean Bower. Interment will be at Greenview Cemetery. Pallbearers will include her nephews and friend, Rick Ashley.
