A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-six in New York, New York, April 27, 1861, and mustered into federal service there June 20 as a private with Co. B, 70th New York Infantry. Wounded in the right side, date and place unknown and not stated in the New York Adjutant General's roster, he returned to duty and honorably discharged at term's end July 1, 1864, at New York City. He is in the roster both as "Leonhard" and "Leonard."
In 1890, he was living in Millersville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and on November 18 of that year applied for a disability pension, which he received. He died in Lancaster County Hospital.

Funeral of Old Soldier
The funeral of Leonard Miller, who died at the county hospital, will take place at 10:30 this morning from H. M. Bair's undertaking parlors. The interment will be made in the soldiers' lot at Lancaster cemetery.
