Joseph Loertscher quietly departed surrounded by family on March 20, 2015 at the age of 98 years old. He was born the youngest of 5 children on June 26, 1916 to Frederick and Hilke (Smit) Loertscher in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Joseph was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities including the Boy Scouts, Sunday School, High Council, and as a Branch President. He was called to serve a mission in Germany which was cut short by the Nazi expulsion of missionaries just before World War II. He completed his mission by serving in the Southern States mission. Afterwards, he served in World War II from 1942-1944 in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He married Annie Myrtle Pickard, who he affectionately nicknamed "Rosel," in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 5, 1942. Together they raised four children: Terry Loertscher, Danny (Sherrie) Loertscher, Freddy (Deborah) Loertscher, and Roseann (Arthur) Thomas. Their family grew to 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2.5 great-great-grandchildren.
Joseph was a master electrician working for the Granite and Davis County School Districts and as a private contractor. He was an avid stamp collector and enjoyed gardening, camping, and fishing. After he retired, he and Annie Myrtle served a mission together in the Tampa, Florida Mission.
He is survived by his four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by his sweetheart, a grandson and great-grandson, his parents, and siblings (sister and three brothers).
The family wishes to thank Solstice Hospice for their loving care, especially Jolene and Tammy.
Dad, we love you and will miss you always, but now that you and Mom are once again together, we can hear you exclaim, "Splendid!"
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Founders Park 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, 11543 South Keystone Drive (approximately 5940 West), South Jordan, Utah. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Founders Park 3rd Ward Chapel and also at an additional viewing on Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church.
