Dr. Earl Hugh Mayne of 201 Seventy-fifth street, Brooklyn, a retired physician who practiced in the borough for more than 50 years, died Thursday in Newport, Vt., of a heart attack, according to word received here. His age was 82. Born in a small Missouri hamlet (in Illinois), the youngest of 8 children, Dr. Mayne moved at an early age to a large farm near Mason City, Iowa. Here he came under the influence of the young principal of the Mason City high school, Miss Carrie Lane, who was later to become Carrie Chapman Catt, and his inspiration for a college career.

Was Civil Engineer He graduated with a civil engineering degree from the University of Iowa, and after working at this profession for 6 years, entered the Bellevue Hospital Medical college, where he completed his studies in the spring of 1893. Dr. Mayne began his practice in the Bath Beach section of Brooklyn. After 20 years he moved to the Bay Ridge section, where he continued the practice of medicine until 1948. He was one of the founders of the Bay Ridge hospital and since its organization was president of the board of directors.
