Mark was born January 29, 1927, in Susanville, California, to Ray Lewis Butler and Leona Johnson Butler. He grew up and attended schools in Susanville and graduated from Susanville High School. He attended Brigham Young University for two years and graduated with a BA from Chico State University. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1948.
He married Helen Hanks and they had four children, Frederick, Jennifer, Robin and Elizabeth. On February 8, 1968, he married Beverly Brown in Sacramento, California, and adopted her son, Ross. Mark made his home in Sacramento and taught Industrial Arts for Sacramento City Schools for over 38 years.
Mark was an accomplished woodworker, a genius with duct tape, and could fix anything. He loved fishing. In his later years, he took up pool and spent many hours with friends and family playing 8 ball and enforcing the “kitchen.” He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mark is survived by his wife Beverly Butler of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Frederick Edward Butler of Norman, OK; daughter Robin Ibarra of Fortuna, CA; daughter Elizabeth Dastrup of Las Vegas, NV; son Ross M. Butler of Boise, ID; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Leona Butler, and his daughter, Jennifer Capresica.
