Edwin Snow Locke Buried In Chicago
Edwin Snow Locke, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. V. M. Locke, passed away of a heart attack ten minutes after entering a hospital in Chicago, Illinois Feb 27, 1953.
Mr. Locke, who had just past his 65th birthday, was born in Antlers February 23, 1888, one year after the family moved up from Lockeston, now Dela, Okla. He was his parents' seventh son and was one of ten children, having eight brothers and one sister, Mary A. Archer, whose home is in Antlers.
After attending schools in Antlers he was a student at Subiaco Monastery near Paris, Ark., and at Sacred Heart Academy near Konawa, Oklahoma where he joined the brotherhood with plans for the priesthood. After a trip abroad he returned home, thence to Kansas City and Chicago where he made his home until his death.
His devotion to his church was life long. He did tremendous reading, at one time enjoying a membership in the Cathedral Book Club where many professors, freelance students like himself, and career people gathered for meetings.
Due to illnesses in the family of Mr. Locke's son, Nelson, a quiet funeral mass was held at St. Bridget's Church with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The priest who knew Mr. Locke so well, repeated in his remarks, "He was a good man."
