He proudly served 24 years in the United States Navy, with the later part of his career being served in the Command Master Chief Program. He was highly decorated and attained the highest enlisted rank of E-9. He loved every year he spent and ship he served on while in the U.S. Navy. He took his Navy career to West Ashley High School as a Naval Science Instructor. He served not only the NJROTC cadets, but all students he came into contact with. Tim was very active and passionate about giving back to his community. He was past Chairman of Charleston Relay for Life, President of Old Charlestowne Sertoma. He was a Master Mason, Shriner, Scottish Rite and Sojourner.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Geneva Strickland and one brother, Nolan.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy Strickland; three step-daughters, Julie (Larry), Tracey (Eddie), and Deidra (Robert); three brothers, Jack (Cynthia), Kester (Wanda), and Franklin; two sisters, Margarette (Tony) and Demaris; grandchildren, Aubrey, Logan, Ginna (John) and their daughter Ainsley, Ryan, Austin, Ashley, Buddy, and Dakota; close family friend, William Sloane; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved companion, Kasey. Tim also leaves behind many students and friends throughout the community. We are so thankful for each of you.
There will be a memorial service at West Ashley High School on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 2:30, and will be open to the public to come and pay their respects. There will be a memorial service at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 413 Geddes Avenue, Charleston, SC 29407, on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be made on Tim's behalf to St. Mark United Methodist Church or Pet Helpers 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
