MRS. PAULINE C. O'CARROLL
Pauline Catherine (Backus) O'Carroll passed away Oct. 8, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Pauline was born April 21, 1916, in Golconda to Fred and Rhoda Backus.
In 1925 Pauline's family moved to Winnemucca where she graduated from Winnemucca Grammar School. She attended and graduated from Humboldt Co., High School. Pauline married Tom O'Carroll in 1937. She was a housewife and her family was her life.
She was active in her community, with PTA, Altar Society, Winnemucca booster club, literary club, hospital auxiliary, later in life enjoying playing golf with the ladies at the Winnemucca golf club. She was a devoted Catholic, a devoted mother and good friend. To know her was to love her. She always had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, son Tommy, three sisters Mary Glenn, Helen King, Millie Tobin, three brothers, Lynn, Gene and Leland Backus. She is survived by five children, Mary Jane (Earl) Cornforth of Winnemucca, Phyllis (Al) Wathen of Dallas, Texas, Patricia (Howard) Loosbroock of Las Vegas, Michael O'Carroll of Sparks, and Mille (Scott) Grune of Sparks. She is aiso survived by 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. We are all so blessed to have had her for so many years.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. The mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the Rosary. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church, E. 4th & Melarkey Street in Winnemucca, NV 89445.
