She was born in Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of Milo and Elsie Bickers Williams.

She married Wilbur B. Hess on Jan. 24, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1996.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia (Kenneth) Taylor of Georgetown; two brothers, Sanford Williams of Plymouth, Minnesota and Floyd (Eileen) Williams of Newton, Illinois; one sister, Rena Lee of Urbana, Illinois; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandhildren.
