He was born in Chicago on Feb. 14, 1921, to Charles and Mary (Wambaja) Horlacher. He married Mary Margaret Beaty in 1950 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, and 3 sisters, Mildred Arbizzani, Elaine Saltzman and Lillian Wallace, and 2 nieces.
Bob was a US Army veteran serving in Europe and the Pacific in WWII. He was a clerk for the US Postal Service for over 40 years. He was a 50 year member of St. Agnes Church where he ushered for more than 25 years before leaving Springfield. He was a member of San Juan Del Rio Church, VFW Post 7397, US Postal Union, Sunset Club, Catholic War Veterans and a die-hard Cubs fan.
He is survived by his children, Jim (Joan) Horlacher of Jacksonville, Fla. and Kathie (Jeff) Higgins of Riverton; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
Visitation and Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. until the time of a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the Parish Family Center Campaign, San Juan Del Rio Church, 1718 SR 13 N, Saint Johns, FL 32259.
