Gary L. Sears, 85, of Eldridge, took off from the runway of life, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 22, 2015. Per his request, cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of his life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Honor Flight.

Gary was born April 30, 1929 in Leon, IA; the son of Harold D. and Elsie Marie (Parmer) Sears. He was united in marriage to RoseMary Buttz on February 18, 1951. He was a retired Air Force pilot who served twenty years in the Iowa Air National Guard, 132nd Tactical Fighter Wing. He was then a corporate pilot with Continental Western and went on to become a salesman and insurance agent. His hobbies included restoring automobiles, rockhounding, jewelry making and crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his co-pilot in life, his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, RoseMary; his ground crew members include his children: Gary (Mary Ann) Sears, Bettendorf; Debra (Harlan) Sears Brown, St. Louis, MO; Nancy Sears, Salt Lake City, UT; grandchildren: Joshua, Dylan, Jesse, Austin, Marin, Joe, Tara and Tanner; great grandchildren; Abby, Roshel, Armando and Carlos; brother, Daniel (Debbie) Sears and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Reginald L. Sears and his favorite canine companion, "Fetchin Gretchen."
