Samuel was the first child of Grace Judd and Floyd Samuel Doxey of Portland, Oregon. When he was ten years old, his father died, and the family moved to Los Angeles, California, to live with his maternal grandparents. Sam graduated from Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, then attented Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, graduating in June 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Vusiness Administration, where he was active in the student government. He married Elaine Hendrix, who he had met at BYU, on March 16, 1951, and did graduate studies while employed at the Geneva Works, receiving his Masters Degree in Accounting in June 1961. Sam spent four years with the US Navy as an enlisted man, from 1951 to 1955, in Data Processing Systems, then joined the Navy Reserve, where he was commissioned and retired after 39 years of Naval Service, which included tours with NATO, the US Naval Academy, and as Commanding Officer of two Naval Units. He also worked for 30 years for US Steel Corporation in computer systems and programming at the Geneva Works, and later worked several years in overseas assignments as a computer consultant in Turkey, Spain, Chile and Taiwan. Active in the LDS Church, where he served as Bishop for two wards, he also worked in the Utah Director of Public Affairs and at the LDS Missionary Training Center. His service to his church and to his country continued when he served two Public Affairs missions and two Stake Missions. He also served as State President for the Navy League, State Coordinator for the US Naval Academy, and as President of the Utah County Military Officers Association, the Utah County Navy League, and the Central Utah Reserve Officers Association. From 1955 to 2001, he and Elaine resided in Orem, then in 2001 they moved to Pleasant Grove, where they lived until his death. He and Elaine had four children: Samuel Craig Doxey, Diane Doxey Madsen, Ross Wayne Doxey, and Leanne Doxey Wright. (Bio by Kit and Morgan Benson)
