Kenneth W. Shaffer, age 88 of Plymouth, WI, passed away March 22, 2015 at home. He was born June 10, 1926 in Manitowoc, WI, a son of the late Ben and Agnes (Hoffman) Shaffer. He attended Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Ken served in the United States Navy on the USS Blackhawk in the Pacific from Oct. 1944 - June 1946 during WWII. He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Schadewald, in Manitowoc, WI on Sept. 14, 1946. They lived in Branch for 19 years, then moved to the Plymouth farm in 1965, where he raised cattle. He worked as one of the first dairy field men for most cheese factories in the area at the time. In later years he enjoyed raising chickens. He was a charter member of the Kettle Carvers and was active in carving many shore birds, ducks and loons, which he gave away as gifts and sold at craft fairs. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. Ken was a member of Ambelang-Ebelt-Lau Cascade American Legion Post #386 for 50 years.
In addition to his loving wife of 68 years Elaine, he is survived by two sons: Wayne (Jean) and David (Susan) both of Plymouth; Two daughters: Gail (Jim) Wagner and Jill Shaffer & (Michael Polinski) of Appleton; One daughter-in-law: Laura Shaffer of Madison; One sister: Joanne (Bob) Bartelme of Manitowoc; Eight grandchildren: Michael and Brad Roberts, Kurt (Carol) Wagner, Wendy (Andrew) Burch, Chris (Heather) Shaffer, Jennifer (Gene) Smithers, Hope (Josh) Schaefer, and Amy (Brett) Armstrong; Eight great grandchildren; Two sisters-in-law: Clarice Nicol of Jackson, WI and Barb Schadewald of Arizona. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son: Gary Shaffer, two infant granddaughters, daughter- in-law: Donna Shaffer, and two brothers-in-law: Dale Schadewald and Lee Nicol.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday evening (March 25) at 6:00 p.m. at Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Rev. James Hoppert, pastor of Salem of United Church of Christ in Plymouth will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Branch, WI. Following the services, Ambelang-Ebelt-Lau American Legion Post #386 of Cascade will conduct military rites. Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home on Wednesday (March 25) from 3:00 p.m. till the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Kenneth’s name.
