Spc. Gertson of Eagle Lake, Texas was an all-American boy who loved to hunt, fish, farm rice and run cattle. After 9/11 happened, he said he just felt he needed to go defend our country. He knew there was going to be bloodshed in Iraq, but after he got there and saw the people, it really firmed up in his mind he had done the right thing. Gertson could have returned home in January from his original two-year tour of duty, but he re-enlisted to become a sniper. He had survived a December suicide attack on a mess tent in Mosul. He also had a brother who served a year in Iraq. He was killed by a sniper in Mosul at age 26.
