Dec. 17, 1910: age 15, single; gave birth to son, Robert Thomas Nelms. On the birth record, Lilly named Oscar Hamilton Cloud, age 23 of Kingsport, as the father of her son. Census says her age at first marriage was 13.

1920: age 24, single; Lilley C. is a servant living with the Devault family at Sevier Terrace, Kingsport. Son, Robert T., age 9, lives with his grandfather, Charles Wesley at West View Park.

Mar. 7, 1920: age 24; married to widower, John Ruben Roberts, age 35, by S.B. Ogle, Baptist Minister at Sullivan Co., TN. Became stepmother to his children: Leona, James, Helen and Earl.

1930: age 34; Boarder in Elbert Kenis Bartlett's household at Ross Street, Kingsport. She and husband, John, age 45, are both employed as carders at Borden Mills. Son, Robert T. Nelms, age 19, is married to Annie Bartlett, age 17.

1940: age 44; husband, John, age 55, Walnut Street, Kingsport. Son has taken his stepfather's last name: T. Roberts, age 29. Daughter-in-law, Velma, 22, and granddaughter, Patsey C. Roberts, 11 mos.

Mrs. Lillie Charlotte Roberts, 89, 1469 E. Sevier Ave., died at 2 p.m. Sunday in Wilcox Hall following an extended illness. She was born and had spent her entire life in Kingsport. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. Survivors include one (step-) daughter, Mrs. Leona Rogan, Calif.; one son, Thomas Roberts, Kildare, Tex.; three half-sisters, Mrs. Ruby Durham, High Point, N.C., Mrs. Grace Shelby, Sweptsonville, N.C., and Mrs. Mary Bullis, Kingsport; two half-brothers, George A. Nelms, and John Nelms, both of Kingsport; and several grandchildren. Carter's Chapel Funeral Home is in charge.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Charlotte Roberts will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday at the Carter's Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Park. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bullis, Phil Roberts, Rev. Ed. Nelms, Eugene Nelms, Jimmy Hartsock and Mike Shipley. Carter's Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
