Martha M. Pieper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Pieper was born June 19, 1861 at Ashipun, Wis., and was 87 years of age at the time of her death. When a child of six years she moved with her parents to Rocktown, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. She was baptized in Wisconsin and confirmed at Rocktown. On Dec. 3, 1878, at Rocktown, she was married to Gustav Froemming, who preceded her in death. After their marriage they lived in Rocktown for three years when they moved to Mason City, Iowa, and lived there 15 years or until they moved to Douglas county 51 years ago. They lived on a farm for five years in Carlos township, when they moved to Alexandria. Mrs. Froemming has been an active member of Zion Lutheran church, where she was a charter member of the Ladies Aid.
Mrs. Froemming is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wm. Paulus (Ann), Mrs. E. J. Drussell (Josephine) and Mrs. Olga Schramm, all of Alexandria; also fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, and one brother, Herman Pieper, of Long Beach, Calif. Her husband passed away June 27, 1917, and she was also preceded in death by two sons, Herman and Arthur, as well as three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. A. C. Seltz officiating. Pallbearers were: Geo. A. White, Jr., Earl Drussell, Gordon Schramm, Leighton Froemming, Wallace Froemming and Warren Froemming. Interment was made in Kinkead cemetery.
