Joe Byrd, 56, of Smyrna Ga, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Ivy Springs Retirement Cottage. He was born June 14, 1959, in Miami, the son of Richard W. and Verla Peni Byrd. He is survived by one daughter, Megan Byrd of Green Cove Springs, FL, and one son, Richard Byrd of Middleburg, FL; three sisters; Libby Tinney (Frank) of Hoover, AL, Deborah Coleman (Wink) of Bokeelia, FL and Jenny Collins (Jimmy) of Smyrna, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Joe served 4 years in the U.S. Navy and returned to Florida in 1981. He worked for the Federal Government as an Aircraft Welder at the Naval Aviation Depot in Jacksonville for 21 years until he retired in 2002. His remains will be laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 2:30pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in his memory at 4680 Heather Street, Middelburg, FL 32068. His family will meet friends on Saturday April 4, 2015, from 12:00 to 3 p.m.
