Joseph Atkins [sic-Atkison] died April 15th, 1905 after a lingering illness. He was born in Kentucky in September 1826. He was a brother-in-law of Jackson Powell. On account of the illness of his daughter Mrs. Anna McCrea, who was at the point of death, no funeral was held at the house. Short services were held at the grave at 2:00 Monday afternoon by Rev. L. P. Marshall.

Death From Heart Trouble.
Joseph Atkins [sic-Atkison], one of the oldest residents of Franklin, died at his home on Jefferson street Saturday about noon after a long illness with heart trouble.
He was about eighty years of age and was born in Kentucky, coming to this city many years ago. He was one of the familiar characters in Franklin and was known to almost every inhabitant of the city. His early life was spent as a farmer. He was married to a sister of Jackson Powell, of this city, and the wife died many years ago.
The funeral was held on Monday morning being private. Short prayer service was held at the grave by Rev. L. P. Marshall.
