James Woodrow "Jimmy" Little Jr., 65, left his earthly home heaven bound Friday afternoon, April 28, 2006.
He was born Aug. 22, 1940, in Stockton, Calif., to J.W. and Kathryn Scales Little. In 1944, the family came back to a farm in the Bethel Community across the road from his Little grandparents. When Jimmy reached his goal and bought the Thorpe place adjoining his grandparents, his life would be tied to the land as a steward of God's creation. His Half Circle L brand — inherited from his PaPaw Little — would be the inheritance he would spend 36 years building for his children and beloved grandchildren.

His education began at Bethel School that closed after his third year. He was transferred to Ballinger graduating, in 1958.

He began college at Howard Payne, then McMurry College where he met Carolyn Berry. They were married Aug. 27, 1960, at Wesley Methodist in Cisco, Texas.

They headed for Lubbock and Texas Tech. He graduated Tech in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education. He did graduate work in Horticulture at Tarleton and in Chemistry and Physics at Angelo State and UT Austin.

During his Tech years, he owned and operated CJ Janitorial Service, the drive-in and downtown movie theatre in Slaton, and the Continental Cinema in Lubbock.

Returning in 1968, he taught Ag at Paint Rock/Eola for three years, owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Ballinger from 1972 to 1976, and then taught CVAE Horticulture and General Science at John Glenn Junior High in San Angelo for 23 years. All those years he hit the house at 5 o'clock, changed clothes and headed for the farm. His years after retiring from teaching were all the more special because they were spent at the Half Circle L Ranch.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters Deanne Schmidt and husband Earl of Bedford, Denise Norris and husband Robbie of Cedar Hill; son Doug Little and Michelle of Ballinger; and the six grandchildren who called him PaPaw — Dani, J.D., Logan, Colton, Karlie and Kaitlyn; brother Ronnie Little of Lothian, Md.; sister Carolyn Stark of San Angelo; uncle Leonard Scales of Farmington, N.M.; nephew Sammy Yates of Big Spring; sisters-in-law Nalda Steagall of San Angelo, Robbie Pierson of Mineral Wells, Phyllis Graham and husband Ron of Cisco; and brother-in-law Ralph Berry and wife Joyce of Cisco; special cousins Willadene Varnadore, and Mike and Kathy Varnadore and family of San Angelo; and "the other brother" Justin Busenlehner.

Family visitation was from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Lange Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 1, at First United Methodist Church, Ballinger with burial in the Old Runnels Cemetery with Rev. Joe Chamness and Rev. Kent Berry officiating.

Pallbearers will be nephews Jack Steagall, Danny Stovall, Barry Pierson, Beau Graham, Rex Graham, Guy Graham, Shannon Berry, Gene Matthews, Sammy Yates and Jon Fletcher, and special friends, Don Simmons, Bill Clifton, Dewyan Weise, Willie Siler, Joe Peter, Joseph Busenlehner and Justin Busenlehner.
