Father Nieset was preceded in death by his parents, Frank E. and Edna K. DeRan Nieset and sisters, Mary (Harry) Feltner and Gertrude LaSalvia. He is survived by his sister, Barbara (Robert) McNair and brother, Charles (Carolyn) Nieset of Fort Myers, Florida; brother-in-law, Leonard LaSalvia of Casa Grande, Arizona; as well as more than 20 grandnieces and nephews.
Father Nieset was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Toledo on May 26, 1956, and served as associate pastor at Saint Mary Parish, Sandusky, chaplain and principal of Calvert Catholic High School, chaplain to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Oregon, and pastor of Saint Clement Parish, Toledo, Saint Paul the Apostle Parish, Norwalk, Saint Aloysius Parish, Bowling Green, and Saint James Parish, Toledo, until his retirement in 1994.
The Funeral Mass for Father Nieset will be celebrated by Bishop Daniel E. Thomas on Monday, March 23, 2015, 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady, Queen of Peace Chapel on the Campus of the Sylvania Sisters of Saint Francis, 6832 Convent Boulevard, Sylvania. Visitation will be held immediately prior to the Funeral Mass, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Committal will be in Saint Mary Cemetery, Clyde.
