Benjamin was a member of the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell Kentucky. He was a 2002 graduate of Hudson Wisconsin High School. Growing up he was active in karate, hunting and in the Civil Air Patrol. During High School he worked as an apprentice welder and as a dog handler at the greyhound park. He enlisted in 2003. He is survived by his parents, a brother and sister.

Spc. Benjamin Smith, 21, of Hudson died Wednesday, November 2, 2005 while serving his country in Iraq. Benjamin is the son of James and Lenore Smith of Hudson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 11th (Veteran's Day) at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10th at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner WI at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson is assisting the family with arrangements.
