Throughout her life, Stephanie was confronted with many challenges. Her strong will and tenacity insured she would succeed at most. At age five, Stephanie contracted Mastoiditis in 1937 – a condition usually fatal for children. After weeks in the hospital with high fever, she survived but lost hearing in her right ear. At age eight, her father separated from the family. On her own, Stephanie took a bus to her father’s house and demanded that he pay for her private education – which he did. At age 10, she lived through World War IIs Battle of Britain lasting from the summer through the fall of 1940 and repeated V1 (buzz bombs) and V2 rocket attacks ending in 1944. On June 19, 1952, Stephanie married Stephen Albert Corley and gave birth to their first child Linda Sue in December 1953. In October 1954 she and Stephen moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and gave birth to Michael Stephen that December. Gary Albert was born in November 1957, Jennifer Mary in December 1958 and Melissa Jane in April 1960. During the 60s and 70s, she battled for women’s rights. In 1971, she gave up her British citizenship which she had stubbornly maintained to become a US citizen, solely for the purpose to vote against Richard Nixon. She went on to champion many causes but lost her fight with dementia.
She was preceded in death by: her daughter Melissa Jane Corley, sister Bennie Price-Lancaster, mother Enid Price, father Russell Price, husband Stephen Corley, brother Geoffrey Russell Price, brother David Price, and Uncle John Braun.
