STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Melissa Nelson, 35, a gentle and kind daughter and sister, died Thursday in her Oakwood home, following a long battle with liver cancer.
Miss Nelson lived her entire life in Oakwood and was a graduate of the Hungerford School, Clifton. She was a member of A Very Special Place, New Dorp.
Quiet and and childlike, she was always smiling and laughing, and had a very close relationship with her sister, Donna.
"She could light up a room when she entered with her smile,'' said her mother, Kathleen Nelson.
Miss Nelson was a fan of Disney characters and enjoyed watching television and coloring.
She was a parishioner of St. Charles R.C. Church, New Dorp.
Surviving, in addition to her sister, Donna, and her mother, Kathleen, is her father, Bruce Nelson.
The funeral will be Monday from the Colonial Funeral Home, with a 9:15 a.m. mass in St. Charles R.C. Church, both New Dorp. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
