Funeral services for Allene Johnson, 94, of Mesquite and formerly of Edgewood, TX, are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood, TX. A private burial will be at Small Cemetery just outside of Edgewood.
Allene passed away March 18, 2015.
Ava “Allene” Mosley was born January 4, 1921, in Edgewood, TX to James Thomas and Ella Jane Kendrick Mosley. She grew up in Edgewood where she attended school. She married Thomas “Tommy” Bruce Johnson on November 9, 1940. They made their home in Edgewood until 1961, when they moved to Dallas. Allene was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Edgewood.
Allene loved children and enjoyed taking care of them. Along with her birth children, she also raised a great niece and three great nephews as her own.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ella Mosley; husband, Tommy Johnson; son, Erwin Brewer; granddaughter, Ashley Brewer; son-in-law, Glenn Norton; six brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by daughters, Judi King of Mesquite, Polly Norton of Royse City and Vanessa Willmon of Grand Saline; sons, Blane Brewer and wife, Connie of Edgewood and Phillip Brewer of Edgewood; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday evening, 5:00-7:00 PM, at the funeral home in Edgewood, TX.
