Don was born in 1938 in Eureka, KS to Felix and Louise Adams. He grew up on a farm outside of Eureka and was the first born of six siblings. Don once described his proudest achievement as becoming a father and raising his only son, Brian.

He will always be remembered for keeping his car shiny and spotless, and keeping a yard that looked like a golf course fairway.
