Fred Lawrence Tyner, age 99, formerly of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away in Freeman Medical Center, Joplin, Missouri, on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.

Fred Lawrence Tyner was born November 5, 1915 in Vinita, Oklahoma. He was the son of James Tyner and Grace (Young) Tyner. He lived his entire life in the Pawhuska area before moving to Joplin to be near family.

Fred attended and received most of his formal schooling at the Chilocco Indian School. He married Rose Burnett. They were married for many years before she preceded him in death. Fred was employed with the Pawhuska Fire Department for 31 years and at the time of his retirement, he was serving as the Fire Chief.

Fred always enjoyed times he was able to go out hunting and fishing. Most of all, though, he loved the time spent with family.

He is survived by his children, John Tyner of Joplin, Missouri, Terry Tyner of Houston, Texas, Sandra Cordell also of Houston, Ken Tyner of Owasso, Oklahoma and Frank Tyner of Oologah, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; and sons, Fred H. Tyner and James A. Tyner, who was killed in Vietnam in 1970.
