Robert E. Parkes, Jr., 56, of Springfield and formerly of Enfield, entered into his eternal rest on Sunday (May 31, 2009) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Born on September 17, 1952 in Hartford, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Patricia (Ward) Parkes, Sr. Bob was a graduate of Fermi High School in Enfield, Class of 1972. He was employed for over 35 years as a boiler engineer with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield. Bob and his late beloved wife, Janice, were the founders of the Springfield Chronic Pain Association. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his children, Christina Davis and her husband Kennith of Springfield and Shawn Parkes and his wife Krista of Springfield; his brother, Arthur Parkes and his wife Kathie of Vermont; his two sisters, Denise Breyette and her husband Charles of Vermont and Anita Parkes of Enfield; ; his brother-in-law, John Johnson and his wife Denise of Hampden, MA and his four grandchildren, Kennith Scott, Kyle, Hailey and Mitchell. Bob's cherished wife Janice passed away in January. Family and friends may gather on Friday morning, June 5, at 9:15 a.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for a procession to Holy Cross Church, Springfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, June 6, in Vermont. Relatives and friends may call on Bob's family on Thursday evening at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels from 6-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association , 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
