Wallace — Mrs. Lucille Minchew Powell Baker Hamm, age 80, of 2003 North Norwood St., Wallace, died Thursday morning, Feb. 9 at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 am. from the First Baptist Church of Wallace, conducted by Rev. Mike Hopkins and Rev. James L. White III. Entombment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum.
She is survived by one son, James W. (Jimmie) Powell Jr. of Wallace; one grandson, James Michael (Mike) Powell of Teachey; one great-grandson, Michael Dayne Powell of Teachey; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Lib Hamm Green of Franklinton, and Mrs. Zelda Hamm Allen of Hampstead; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Grey Minchew Grantham of Stantonsburg. Mrs. Ruth Minchew Malone of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Betsy Minchew Peacock of Freemont; one brother, William E. Minchew of Wilson.
Born in Black Creek, NC., Mrs. Hamm was the daughter of the late Richard Edward and Sallie Vicy Hales Minchew and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wallace.
Casketbearers will be Keith Newborn, Erich Minchew, Fletcher Daughtridge, Chalmor Grantham, Sam Green and Todd Minchew.
The family suggests In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Wallace Building Fund or to a charity of ones choice.
The body will be taken to the residence Friday morning to remain until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, when It will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the service.
