BRIGHTON — Suzanne E. Rodgers, 55, died at 11:45 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at her home.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1959, in Alton, daughter of Robert L. and Wilma A. (Robinson) Brooks.

She married Michael J. Rodgers June 25, 1983, in Jerseyville, Ill.

Suzanne graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor's of science in elementary education. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Social Fraternity during college, then a member of the Alton/Edwardsville Alumni Club and was President for part of those years. She later obtained her master's degree in elementary education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She began her teaching career in Pana, Ill., at St. Patrick's Sacred Heart School, and taught there for five years. She then started teaching in the Jersey Community School District, where she dedicated 27 years to the district in which she was raised, teaching at East Elementary School. She was also on the Faculty of IGA (Illinois Geographic Alliance) Summer Geographic Institute where she facilitated lessons in geography at SIUE during the 1996-2002 Summer Geography Institute. Suzanne and her husband enjoyed being an active participant in their children's education. She sat on the Alton Youth Symphony board for a time. She also served on the board for ABOB (Alton Band and Orchestra Builders) and was a Marching 100 Mom for six consecutive years.

Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Rodgers; sons, Adam Rodgers of Godfrey, Ill., and Nicholas Rodgers of Chicago; parents, Robert and Wilma Brooks of Jerseyville; sister, Cindy Brooks of Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Lois (Hefner) Brooks and William and Margie (Brotherton) Robinson.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday March 3, at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Rev. Ed Haun will officiate.

Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to "Givin it all for Guts."
