Benjamin Franklin Speed was the son of James Monroe Speed & Sarah Rogers of Covington County, Mississippi and the husband of Colon Rosaner Ulmer whom he married February 6, 1873 in Covington County. Benjamin, Colon, & their children moved with his brother George Washington Speed & his family from Covington County, Mississippi to Navarro County, Texas in January 1876, eventually settling in Kerens.

Epitaph: In love he lived, In peace he died. His life was craved But God denied.
