"James H. Flenniken, 82, until 10 years ago a
prominent merchant in the Market house, died at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. Jno. M. Gore, 742 Fifth
Avenue, Thursday at 5:25 p.m. The end came after
several weeks of illness.
"Mr. Flenniken is survived by his children,H. W. Flenniken, of Cleveland, Ohio; William B.
Flenniken, Misses Mollie and Kate Flenniken, Mrs. H.
L. Freymond, Mrs. Horace Irwin, and Mrs. Gore, all of
Knoxville; and by 14 grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.
"The deceased was a member of Broadway
Baptist church, and in recent years was a faithful
attendant at its services, whenever his health
permitted. He was a Civil War veteran, having served
an enlistment in Company C of the Sixth Tennessee
Volunteer Infantry, and retained membership through
life in the Edward Maynard post of the G.A.R."
