FUNERAL OF LIEUTENANT-COLONEL EWING, OF TAUNTON.
Funeral of Lieut.-Colonel Ewing, who died at Taunton Thursday, at the age of 65 years, took place in Toil! Churchyard yesterday morning. The coffin was covered with Union Jack, surmounted the plumed hat and sword the deceased gentleman, and was borne by six of the eight non-commissioned officers the P.A.S.L.I., who attended. The service was conducted by tbe vicar (the Rev. J. Southam). The principal mourners were Mrs Ewing (widow), Mr and Mrs Pearson, Buglawton Hall. Congleton; Mrs Eden (sister-in-law), the Hon. Chief Justice Getty, Gibraltar: Mr Alfred Scott-Gatty, York; Col. Darnell, Sidmouth; Major Darnell. Leicester; Rev. Prebendary Askwith (vicar St. Mary's, Taunton), Geo. O'Malley (Royal Artillery). Dr. David Brown, Taunton; Nurse Cheraton, and the household servants. In the church the hymn, 'Jerusalem, Golden,'' was sung, tone of which was composed by Colonel Ewing. A number floral tributes were sent from relatives and friends.
